My Soul

My Soul

A Poem by Matt Stewart

O my soul, what a complex one thou art!

Thou art redeemed, yet why are you void of joy?

Has life gripped you to a point such as this,

That you wallow in depression as a pig wallows in filth?

Stand up, take courage, and trust in the Lord!

Your journey has only begun, and it’s much too early to feel this weighed down.

You cling for another place in time, yet find yourself in a different place.

Find rest where you are and leave tomorrow with God;

Don’t fear to take the step of faith necessary that you might grow,

Otherwise you’ll only remain young and ignorant.

Many words have pierced you, and many have left you feeling empty,

Yet don’t give up in the time of despair,

Because it’s in those days God will strengthen thee.

Seek His face while He may be found,

For He longs for you, as a husband longs for his bride.

Be valiant and courageous, for in the world around us, these are a rarity.

Though you can’t see the horizon, have faith in what will be,

For what will be is your hope within the what is now.

Open your eyes and see, though you feel alone, you are never forsaken;

You are loved and treasured by He who created you more than words can express.

The shadows are evidence of the sun,

So though you may be hurt now, carry on, for better days lie ahead of thee.
