Prairie

Prairie

A Poem by Lyr J. Thirsk

Sometimes, I want to walk out on the prairie

Its big, and Raven will say things as I fall asleep

My brother is the moon, so I am never alone there

And I think about my life in the cities

Sometimes, on the prairie, i feel a powerful wind

Its like a wind that the world made

Deep down in its own body

A wind from the body of the World

Out on the prairie, I can feel this wind.

But not in the cities.

I think the wind blows anyways, even when I am not there

Even if I cannot feel it.

But I have

I feel so much out there

You can turn around and see from star to star

One star, on the west horizon

Is a thousand light years from the one on the Eastern horizon

And on the prairie, all I need to do is turn around

And I see them both

On the prairie, I can see a thousand light years.

Raven told me that the winds are coming

Fox is running away.

I felt confused and happy.

Because I love the prairie winds.

But those aren't the winds that Raven was talking about.

So now, Im a little scared.

I want to go out on the prairie again, and camp a bit.

I want to tread the grass like wading in shallow waters.

Purple skies and moons talk to me there.

The words there I can understand.

I can see a thousand light years just by turning around there.

On the prairie, things make sense.

In the cities now, you can't even see the sky.
