The day after

The day after

A Poem by jami

Final minutes tick slowly
as I sit with my hands in my lap
pretending to pay attention
when all I want is nap

I cannot win the battle
my eyelids begin to fall
the teachers notes become blurry
and I don't care at all
I focus what attention I have
In remembering his soothing voice
I tried not to feel this way,
It seems I have no choice.
and those three little words
he'd spoken the night before,
then said it was time to sleep
but I just wanted more
I faintly hear about inequalities
as I dream about his touch
I thought I'd loved before
but never ever this much

A smile comes to my face
when that final bell begins to ring,
I can go get some sleep,
and later listen to him sing.
