Flickering Lights

Flickering Lights

A Poem by Margret Sent

The sky is pitch black, even the stars mourn
The night is full of what could only be forlorn
I hug myself as emptiness swallows me whole
Only you could have saved me, but you had to let me go

You don't know how many nights I spent trying to comfort my self
How many times I tried to call your name but it somehow didn't make sense
I learned how to be alone and I survived
But it doesn't mean in any way that I don't want you in my life

A switch was turned off, and just like that you were gone
I desperately searched for the light but it ended up blinding my soul
Could it be that we're so alike, we weren't meant to be?
'Cause we were both like the night, hidden by its own mysteries

I can't change, neither can you
But just like that we gave up on everything we knew
Wasn't life supposed to be about chances we never though we'd take?
We could have been each other's greatest leaps of faith
