The Sweetest Promise

The Sweetest Promise

A Poem by jasonpaisley
"

Love poem and a happy one. I never write happy ones.

"

So many times we get excited over the new
Catch ourselves in the fantasy of what could be
And then it slips out of our view
Yet when I see the look in your eyes
And I see that smile across your face
I know the happiness I bring to you
I don’t want to promise you forever
And I don’t want to give you a false lead
But each second I spend with you
Fills my heart and that’s all i need
All that you are is all I could ever hope for
And I feel hope growing more and more
So although I see you not as much as I wish
Your very existence is the sweetest promise

So many have come before but something was wrong
They either promised me the world or gave me lies
Such words fall short of your silence so strong
I hear the sweetest songs spoken in your eyes
You need not say anything I read it all in you
And I don’t have to swear loyalty or that I’ll always be true
You know that I belong with you how could i ever stray
Where would I ever go who would I turn to anyway
When I have something in you I have wanted always
Your silence says more than anyone else can say

We’ve only just begun this journey together
A newborn love full of whimsy just beyond infatuation
And we’ve no idea of the tests we will weather
But I know we’ll keep this fascination
All we need to do is hold to what is true
Doubt has no place for people such as we
Trusting in our hopes builds this unity
So as you are alone in your thoughts this night
Smile as you think of what we’ve accomplished
Let my very existence be the sweetest promise
