Lover’s Exalter

Lover’s Exalter

A Story by Kenneth Stephen Goodpaster
"

One who loves to death.

"
She and I sit on a boat on still lake
That a lonely willow tree overlooks,
And sounds a song that cricket make;
Beauty and Serenity embodied by books.
To the willows cool shade I’ve rowed
To preent a symbol of forbearing love
That binds heart by a heavenly code
To her that I bestow care none above.
The moment arises to present lover’s request
To form a union witnessed before the Altar.
Anticipation brings rapid beat within breast
For her love I am an everlasting exalter.
Her acceptance promises eternal romance,
And Denial, accidental drowning perchance?

I like the imagery used here to create the scene of a proposal, the anticipation you can feel of the lover awaiting their response. Also, the relatability of the piece, we've all been there, laying the heart out on the line to where no other response seems reasonable other than the one you so desperately want to hear. Where love incites madness, I like it. :)
