Song for Dearly Beloved King

Song for Dearly Beloved King

A Poem by Kenneth Stephen Goodpaster

To what purpose have you need of me,
Oh my dearly beloved eternal king?
Oh, to pour into your a cup  hot tea,
And your glory and power, me sing?
Dearly beloved king, you favor song
Of portrayal of your gentle nature,
Telling of eternal plane you belong
For exalters upon the days of rapture?
Then you need me not sing alone
For your chorus of praise surrounds!
Around us all, we hear children moan
And the beating of  your women sounds!
On the Docks we can hear drunken yells
As a young lad be robbed and neck be slit!
In the town rings the judgmental bells,
Not for church but for executioner’s pit!
At the gates wallow mothers of boys
Strung up high by their necks for treason!
Dearly Beloved king, Tis no mere noise,
But songs sung all of the Jovial Season!
To you we bestow our utmost praise
For the rest of our miserable days!
