A Childish Game

A Childish Game

A Poem by Kenneth Stephen Goodpaster

Upon the house sat Ralph, Timmy, and I
The savvy crew of the Flying Duchess.
The abundant ropes, Ralph and Timmy tie
While I deliver a Captain's address

"For every loose knot, I can punch you,
And if you cry, you have to kiss my feet,
And if you don't, the other can punch too;
If you cry again, go lick the pig's teat!"

"Kenny, how  come you're captain?" whines Timmy.
"Cause" say I, "I am the biggest one here!"
"Come on, it's my turn for Captain Kenny!"
"No, or else I'll tell your dad you drank beer!"

"NO!" screeches Timmy as he throws his fist
Toppling me down, breaking my puny wrist.

king of the castle, lord of the flies....all young men clamoring for dominance to see who is the alpha male. this is exactly why i spent my youth playing with the girls....they were gentler, and a lot more fun to wrestle with. awesome little write here , Kenneth. truly an enjoyable read, with some memories attached.
