![]() October 16, 1990A Poem by Kenneth Stephen GoodpasterOctober 16, 1990
My eyes ache as the days slowly pass by As October takes all of the warmth away. When I met you years ago, I was shy, Struck by you and unsure what to say.
You took my hand and led me to the dance, Smiling so sweet as I stepped on your toes. Then you kissed me before I had the chance, When I went to kiss you I got your nose.
Months later I greeted you with flowers, And you laughed and kissed beside my snout. I held you on my back porch for hours Talking of things I knew nothing about.
A year later we made love the first time. Lying by you, I kissed your nose again And when I did, I knew your heart was mine. I longed for this moment to never end.
It was the sixteenth day of October When I got on my knees to give you a ring. And after our wedding in November, We had a little baby girl in spring.
When I saw you lying in your casket I reached down, kissed your nose, and then I wept. That night, as I put my laundry in the basket I gave Astrid's nose a kiss as she slept.
Now she is gone for university. I am so proud of her, you would be too. Together, her and I faced adversity But I still sob for how much I miss you© 2013 Kenneth Stephen Goodpaster |
