Now I Sleep

Now I Sleep

A Poem by Kenneth Stephen Goodpaster

Now I Sleep

Cartoons sing looping jingles in my head

While I ponder life goals for tomorrow

But I really should get ready for bed

As the night drags on painfully slow.

I lie down for a second, but for just

Before a challenge of wits consumes

Before I'm completely consumed by lust

And check tricks for my peak that stoutly blooms.

Thoughts take flight, lose control, and crash upward

And I spiral into utter madness

With demented nonsense spattering outward.

Then I feel a shoveling wave of sadness.

Now I sleep.
