Why....?

Why....?

A Poem by Jasper
"

How we still turn a blind eye to domestic violence...

"

Why don’t you hear when I scream

Why don’t you see when I bleed

Dark glasses can’t hide

The fear in my eyes

The emotion on which he feeds.

Why don’t I call the police

Why don’t I just run away

I slipped and  I fell

I know…silly me

As least the children don’t pay.

Why don’t you see me quake

Why don’t you see me cry

The key in the lock

Its time again

Time, inside, to die.

Why don’t you hear when I scream

Why don’t you see when I bleed

He’s a good man you see

Respected and kind

And provides for me all that I need….

Domestic violence is such a terrible thing. It's sad when the children suffer, but it's the mothers who suffer silently for their children. They take the force, so their children don't know what it feels like to bleed; emotionally or physically. We as a country, as a nation, turn our heads to hide from the painful reality of abuse. We say things like "They made their bed, now they can lie in it." or "They're stupid, so they get what they deserve." I don't agree. I think people are so afraid of getting involved that they turn their heads and hide even if that means they are a coward. I loved this piece and my heart sunk for the pain your character endured. Great write!
