Lament

Lament

A Poem by Kermit Gildersleeve
"

More feelings.

"

The Rattle of the shield and spear,

The souls of Arthur,

Hector and Achilles,

Beowulf and Galahad,

Slayers of Dragons,

Heroes of romance,

In poemes and ballads they danced the deadly dance,

of Combat, heroic and unabashed,

their lives were epic,

their deeds were legend,

mortals made gods by the pen,

who now possesses their ken?

the knight has ridden on,

the dardans are slain,

The lords of the vikings have sailed away,

Long past the dusk of their glorious day,

they have little place in the annals of new,

their exploits read by merely a few,

the world has changed,

the romantics are dead,

what has come in their stead?
