CEMETERY ANGEL

in a quiet cemetery
on the mendocino coast
a silent angel
stands guard
wrapped in shrouds of mist
alone now
save for restless souls
and silken shafts of sunlight
through redwood and cypress boughs
most of the graves are very old
the departed caught
in their final sleep since the early 1900's
the angel is alone
there were other angels
7 of them
standing guard
marble depictions
of safe-keeping
for the resting spirits
but they were
taken away
unknown by the souls
they had been set to guard
the angels were relocated
some stand in the center of fountains
protection for flashing golden fishes
in the back yard
of someone unaware
uncaring of the cycles of life into death
they have disturbed
for the adornment of their sculpted garden
unaware of the souls now restless walking
the mists of time in search of the guardian
they were comforted by
unaware
and i wonder as i visit
the remaining guardian angel
pristine in the amber light
of the setting sun
what karma
will cycle round upon
those who take the guardians from a graveyard...

If there is not, there should be a lease arrangement put on stonework at gravesites other than family gravestones and monuments. A certain protocol should be followed for overlapping family generations at the minimum.
