A SUNDAY BRUNCH

A SUNDAY BRUNCH

A Poem by jeannemarie coulter

A SUNDAY BRUNCH

surrounded by other diners
and the busy blanket noise of the sunday brunch crowd
she is lonely
sitting in the café
gazing out at the huge windows
where the swirling waters are cresting  into noyo harbor
she sips her glass of cabernet
and ponders...
if we had unlimited vision
if we could see beyond the curvature of the pacific horizon
would i see someone sitting in a café
as lonely as me
would we raise our glasses in a salute of recognition
and share our cabernet, well aged cheddar
and sweet french rolls still warm from the oven...
could we speak with sign language
our eyes not quite seeping our loneliness out
could we share all of the mysteries of life
a long distance silent conversation
of love
of laughter
and hope and faith...
of not being alone even in a crowd.

I don't believe that there are many situations that play out quite as lonely as a person dining in a restaurant alone. When I see it I always have the urge to invite the person to join my table with my friends and loved ones. Your writing for this piece catches the mood and spirit of that diner alone, looking to the horizon and hoping for someone to join her. take care...an

solitude can be a lovely companion when it is required, but loneliness does not make for good company, ever... i love the image you create in the reader's mind of two people, perhaps, sitting a world apart, thinking the same things, maybe...the last five lines hit home as the heaviness within the chest builds... great write, Jeannemarie.

This take me bake to when I practically lived in the bars.
At times I enjoyed that loneliness...
I loved this!

People need not be this lonely. or shy! There are classes that can make a inhibited person obnoxious. Take one and stop the course when you feel comfortable in your own skin.
