Soon Enough

Soon Enough

A Poem by Mariah

Soon enough,

He’ll call me when it is most convenient for him

He’ll explain that the gratification of his ‘sorry’ could only accurately be portrayed by the grace of his lips on mine

That feeling the curvature of my body is the only way he could forgive himself

For the damage he has done.

After all, even after all this heartache

It is still he who suffered the most.

He’ll touch me as if his pain could only be explained by his skin on mine

As if forgiveness meant contact

And contact meant wholeness.

And when his fingers speak for him

I hope i have the strength to tell him that my body is not my soul

That the damage he caused cannot be undone by his lips

That this time, his ‘apology’ is not enough.
