Socks: A Disappearing Act

Socks: A Disappearing Act

A Poem by Joshua McNay
"

Written for a friend just for fun, she asked me to write about sleeping in socks and waking in none. This is the nonsense I came up with, enjoy!

"

I go to sleep one way and wake another,

A confused question I ask my mother.

I sleep in a comfy pair of socks,

When I wake my toes are cold and I’m in shock.

I swear there is a conspiracy!

A plot against my little toesies.

Why do my socks come off as I sleep?

A mystery I’m sure isn’t really that deep.

A result of tossing and turning at night?

But why both socks? That just isn’t right!

One I can maybe understand,

But seriously two? What the hell man!?

Every night the cycle repeats,

I awake to nothing on my feet.

Sure, I can sleep without socks on,

Convenient as I wake with none on.

But that doesn’t solve the mystery,

Do my feet and my socks have some kind of rivalry?

They spend all day inside a shoe,

Being that close can’t be easy to do.

I need to find a way to keep the peace,

So, I can sleep and wake with socks on my feet.
