Kittens In My Dreams

Kittens In My Dreams

A Poem by Norma J. Jessee

Kittens

Last night I dreamed of kittens,

There were kittens everywhere,

They were sleeping on my stomach,

They were scratching in my hair.

They were clawing at my pillow,

They were standing on my head,

They were coughing up their fur-balls;

As they raced about my bed.

They were on the chairs and tables,

Swinging from the chandelier's,

They were hiding in the corners

They were purring in my ears.

Kittens, Kittens, Kittens,

For as far as I could see,

When I awoke today, I found;

There were paw prints over me.

Very interesting! Incredible, the things that we dream, but to be able to turn it into a poem - marvellous.
The last line, you could safely dispense with the first two words:

'There were kittens, kittens, kittens,
For as far as I could see,
When I awoke today, I noticed
Claw marks, all over me.'

I think this poem has great potential. The subject matter is very cute and it would lend itself to some wonderful illustrations. It would certainly appeal to any child who likes cats or has one!

My only small comment is about the last line. I'm just wondering if waking up with claw marks on you might be a little creepy for small ones. Maybe the claw marks could be on the bed spread instead? Or the pillow? That way it's a little more amusing and magical, as it was intended to be.

I love this piece. I feel this way all the time ... we have five cats. I used to let my Marcelle in my room with me at night, but it got to where I can't handle letting her in and out and in and out several times during the night, so she stays out. Just the one cat seems like millions of cats ... I swear that child is everywhere! But I love her to pieces!!!

Thanks for sharing this cute, cute piece with me.

Bet the grandies loved this one!

This is just a thought, I would probably think about dropping "I noticed" though, mainly because being a poem for the little ones it needs to remain simple with an easy flowing rythym.

It is very good as it is I love it a lot.
