The Shoes On The Other Foot Tonight

The Shoes On The Other Foot Tonight

A Poem by Norma J. Jessee
"

I was angry when I wrote this after having an argument with my son.

"

I'm not gonna let you ,

Push me around no more,

I don't have to take it, son

So head on out the door.

If I was so wrong before

Then I'm changing wrong to right

And the shoe is on the other foot

             Tonight.

I've listened to your whims and gripes,

I've played your silly games,

I've listened to your lying

But there comes a time for change.

You keep on involving me

And honey that's not right

So the shoe's on the other foot

                Tonight.

I too have my ups and downs,

It's not an easy life to live,

But you can't keep on taking,

Without learning how to give.

I'm taking off the apron strings

You've been clinging to so tight

And the shoe is on the other foot

              Tonight.

I realize this is about your grown son and involving you in things that you shouldn't be but...kind of works for my son right now who is not quite grown lol he has been acting up of late and pushing me to the edge. I loved this because of that - I loved the "door" part - but alas, he is not old enough for me to suggest that lol.

this had a great rhythm and flow. on the read i could actually feel the frustration. :-)

Expreesively eloquent and truthful poem written with upmost emotional surrender,
as well as the moral lesson behind the wording, which is absolutely true,
and those who read your clip note, should know that they are words to live by.
the depth, nature of the tone, and consistancy makes this an awsome poem

this is that thing about nurturing, i was telling you about, sometimes it never ends with our children and then again, they may disconnect entirely and we look for that reconnection, there is never a happy medium. I felt your frustration in this as a parent, it told me a whole lot about your strong character.

Sometimes we need to see the situation from the other person's perspective, I think if we all could do that then there woul be so much more harmoney in this world... another nice set of lyrics my friend.

I found this very interesting in the sense that I can't understand how someone could put their parent that loves them in a position that causes them this much anger and emotional hell. I know I put my parents through a crap load when I was younger but at the same time I did not go running to them anytime I got in to trouble I figured a way out myself, since I put myself there in the first place. I am sorry that you are dealing with such issue and I do truly wish you the best of luck with all that is going on.

Brilliant! Sometimes it takes a bit of anger to fire up the creative urges, but boy, when it does, you really let 'em have it.

(PS - grips=gripes)
