surrender, dorothy

surrender, dorothy

A Poem by jen

the end of the yellow brick road forgotten
finally those flying monkeys have been relieved of their wings
and the witch sent to a retirement home
with swollen feet that can't quite fit into those ruby reds
dorothy has surrendered
she no longer hears the sing song promises from the sky
the rainbow begins and ends in her own back yard
toto sleeps by the fireplace
his soft snores still bring a smile to her lips
dorothy keeps her secrets
she remembers adventures
a prayer, a promise,
preparing for the passage of age and time
she sighs to herself,
"there's no place like home"

This is good.....a of little bit of humor, little fantasy, and some realism thrown in all at once. Great mix and made me smile. I can visualize it too. You have good imagery.

I like the story and theme of this poem. Taking Peter Pan out of Neverland is difficult psychologically but undeniably realistic. The process of maturing is not always easy but inevitable. Great perspective and well written.
