Billy Buttons

Billy Buttons

A Poem by jen -- JG

BILLY BUTTONS

Billy Buttons played with buttons,

He kept them in his pocket.

One day his teacher saw him

And went of like a rocket.

"What do you think you’re playing with"

he shouted, red with rage

and glared at Billy Buttons

for what seemed quite an age.

Billy Buttons didn’t answer

He only dropped his head

His hand slipped from his pocket

Then quietly he said

"Well Sir, it’s just my buttons.

"Impertinence!" the teacher roared

his eyes a reddish glare

he shook poor Billy senseless

which wasn’t really fair.

Then Billy’s eyes rolled back

Taking on a pain filled glaze

As his little body trembled

And his aching head he raised.

"I told you, Sir," said Billy

his voice, a whisper weak

His little hand then opened

Dropping buttons by his feet

"See Sir, it’s just my buttons.
