A Poem by jenniewren (J.W. Bouwman)

snowfall reminds me of you
the way you would call us to the window
for every first snow
even when it meant you had to wake us -
that little glimmer in your eye of childhood
and later, when i was grown,
the excited phone call,
coming across the miles of telephone wire
connecting me
to a someone i'd forgotten i could be

no one calls me anymore
with that tone of wonder in their voice
or knows our secret midnight conversations...
i don't know that i will ever know love
as unconditional as yours
and that thought makes me ache
for your cool palm on my forehead
and the soft caramel smokiness of your voice
that i can only remember as a feeling
and no longer as a fact

Gee
What a lovely piece of writing. Reminds me of the times I woke my daughter at ungodly hours, when she was a toddler, to look out at fresh fallen snow. I miss her not being dependent, young, naive

The words burrow deep down into my soul. Pure feelings. Powerful memories, penned with a gentle touch.

Like I never lost you! This was amazing. I’m always amazed at our capacity to recall certain things with absolute emotional clarity and forget others like they never existed. A bit sad, a lot reflective and totally satisfying!!!

oh my goodness what a wonderful poem, so alive with imagery and feeling.

A beautiful testimant to their impact on you.

Loved these lines to most:

and that thought makes me ache
for your cool palm on my forehead
and the soft caramel smokiness of your voice
