Holding The Photo

Holding The Photo

A Poem by Jeremy Bjelland

He’s holding the photo with his left,

While wiping away tears with his right,

Feeling the pain deep down inside,

He’s going to struggle through the night

Love is what’s hurting the young man,

But it is what is now bringing him joy,

He always dreamed of a girl like her,

Even when he dreamed as a little boy,

It wasn’t that he liked her looks so much,

Even though he always called her a cutie,

But he was looking at her deeper within,

So she would know she was a true beauty,

His shoulders were plenty use with her,

Between the pain, heartache, and anger,

She knew that her head on that shoulder,

Was a place that keeps her from danger,

He sets the photo back on the desk,

Bows his head into both of his hands,

His sobbing becomes more intense,

This is the time no man is able to stand,

He had a special spot behind her neck,

It was a spot she loved him to touch,

Her body would always feel the love,

And he would always treat her as such,

He now cannot believe she is now gone,

She was the one who did everything right,

The drunk took her with not time to react,

She didn’t even have any time to fight,

He knows he could move on from this,

But he’s going to wait for grief to pass,

Then he will get on his two feet again,

And knowing he will be alright at last.
