Clap Clap

Clap Clap

A Poem by Jason Galliger

Clap-Clap

Clap-Clap

The sound echoes all around me

Clap-Clap

Go the Semi-Automatics

Clap-Clap

The radio static coming in from base

Clap-Clap

Our boots against the cold earth

Clap-Clap

The tanks .55 mm gun sneezing out rounds

Clap-Clap

Goes a roadside bomb sending shrapnel into a Hummer

Clap-Clap

Goes the heat pounding in my chest

Clap-Clap

Is my comrades breath coming out, leg bleeding.

The war stopped, they want to give me a star or something

I give a short speech,

Most of it in silence of those whose clapping hearts stopped.

When I’m done

They rise to their feet

And start to

Clap-Clap.

amazing how with the rhythmic repetition you open a world few of us will ever experience~ poignant in its straightforward "this is what it is" mood~ excellent poetic~

it's more a story than a poem !! smart yet emotions-free !! the title was interesting yet the content wasn't
