Miss Hazel Eyes Can tell a Story With the Strum of her Guitar

Miss Hazel Eyes Can tell a Story With the Strum of her Guitar

A Poem by JCharo

Angelica has curly hair

fish-net stocking gloves

long heirloom dresses

and blouses equipped with cleavage.

She wants to be an emcee

a lyricist poet that flows just

like a Mexicana Lauryn Hill.

She’s psychedelic,

writes poems about

losing her virginity

to her sister’s husband

at 14

leaving red ink drops

on tan suade couches.

She wants to be a kid again.

She strums on guitars

and bangs on broken tambourines.

Hums tunes behind a closed mouth,

not because she doesn’t remember lyrics

but because Jimmy Page’s guitar

has always said more

than Robert Plant’s voice,

plus the words of man

are always disguised lies

in her huge hazel eyes.

what a great piece of art you have given us! The simplicity of the poem reflects the simplicity of the girl (vice versa?) yet it is so richly colored, "long heirloom dresses and blouses equipped with cleavage, " "leaving red ink drops on tan suede couches," and the wonderful line about Led Zep. All effect beautiful metaphoric transfer and one feels as if they have known this girl already a long time!

Further, your particular approach makes this write so fresh and new, not "cliche."

A amazing description of this woman Angelica. I like the description of her. She seem special to me. Many of us are lost in old dreams. Hold on tight to things that make us content. A powerful poem with a very strong story. A excellent poem.

This was incredible, I love it, I know you are a hip hop junkie and I could really feel that in the flow, but as the poem went on it had a strong Black Crows feel. An excellent write.

With Love,

Jaidyn
