Such is the Way of My Life

A Poem by The Watcher

A poem based on a couple of observations I made about my own mental processes and self reflection.

My heart once fostered an immortal spark of hope.
A hope that pointed to a prosperous future,
Where final fates rest within.

But fates change like the tides of time.
As dreams began to fade into silence.
The future remains feral and uncertain.

Such is the way of my life...

Torn between two polar opposites of itself,
My mind struggles in uncertainty.
Where unstable morals violently collide.

Here I stand against my dark twin.
Engaged in combat for our rights to exist.
What shall prevail? My positives or negatives?

Such is the way of my life...

Difficult choices must be made.
Do I strive to assist myself or others?
For ages in time, I have chosen the former.

But what of my own well-being?
Deprived and starving for social comfort?
With dying emotions and lost faith?

Such is the way of my life...

Yet... my life was long programmed with immense defense.
Survival mechanisms that kept me alive for years on end,
Desperately attempting to restore a lost balance.

But no matter the outcome of these ordeals,
One safeguard prevents the absolute worst from passing.
The very spark of hope that resides within me.

Such is the way of my life...

Nice work. I love the structure and the layout. Sometimes I find that I can express more feelings even by changing the structure of the writing. Keep doing what you are doing. You add a nice touch to the world of poetry.
