Lock the Doors

Lock the Doors

A Poem by John'n

The frightful dream you must escape,
though the hour hasn't come that you should wake
The trickery of moonlight
cast upon the stillness of the lake
like polished glass, waiting for the terrible embrace

Were I evil you could hate me-
     Inconstant you could shake me-
I am I, and nothing more
Cast me out-
Lock the doors

The strength of heart that keeps you safe-
the heart that comes unbidden is a heart that goes to waste
The constancy of sun that all your lighted rooms would fake-
a sun is still a sun, when light is a mistake

Were I more, then you could see me
Were I chosen, you could BE me
I am I, nothing else-
Strike me down-
save yourself.
