Italian Countryside

Italian Countryside

A Poem by J Schwenk
"

Explore the beautiful world.

"
Roaming along the countryside
Gazing at the vineyards and hills
In front of the setting sun
It colored the sky a deep shade of orange and pink
Grass blades moved in symphony from the soft breeze
Leaves rustled from the olive trees
A man in the distance carried a basket of fresh Parmesan cheese and red wine
Flowers embroidered the hills
Looking like bright rubies on a green canvas
We passed a man serenading his girl
From the bottom of a hill
The language sounds like romance to my ears
The warm, soft breeze cuddled me like a blanket
Loose stones shuffled under my feet as I walked
Along the cobblestone road
Taking in the beauty of the countryside
A droplet of water fell on my cheeks
I looked up at the sky
It started to rain
Warm water drops showered the countryside
I smiled
My dog ran around in circles in pure joy of the rain
Italy looks more beautiful in the rain
The fragrance of the rain along with fresh olives and wild flowers
Smells indulging
Cypress trees lined the hills
The setting sun is visible above the horizon
The rain eased
Dusk fell
And stars sprinkled across the night canvas
Italy is even more breathtaking at night
Candles appeared on the terrace and inside homes
Looking like gold in the darkness
Smiling
I walked back to my villa with my dog trudging alongside me
In the countryside of Tuscany.
