Another Friday night/ Another Saturday Morning

A Poem by jsnape29
"

About being stuck in a cycle of drinking, casual sex and hangovers. (Inspired by my self-destructive days at university)

"
Another Friday Night
Another Friday Night
Out on the town again
Dressed up with the girls
Going big is the aim
With a drink in her hand
She's the queen of this club
Reborn and awoken
The game had begun.
She's at home in this place
At one with the crowd
She can escape her mind
With the music so loud
The past is forgotten
She's lost in a dream
Sparkling and perfect
In the dark she believes.
There's a glint in her eye
She's up to no good
But can never resist
That familiar buzz
The eyes are on her
She knows they desire her
She's looking for conquests
Not looking for love.
There's a boy at the bar
Fittest one in the club
But easy to catch
When you look this good
Just a flick of the hair
And a lick of the lips
Is all that is takes
For a taxi to his
She's on an adventure
Backseat entwined
She gives little thought
To the friends left behind
She doesn't feel shame
She's committed no sin
She's drunk and she's high
On her devilish win.
-------------------------------
Another Saturday Morning:
She awakes from the black
Confused in a daze
Stange man at her side
Can't remember his name
In the dark grabs her phone
Searches through her missed calls
Trying to piece together
The blurred night before.
Without saying goodbye
She stumbles out the door
Struggles to locate her bra
Left on the hallway floor
Time to get out of this place
And make her getaway
Far too many mornings
Have started this way.
A walk of shame home
Wearing last nights clothes
The strangers all stare
It's clear they all know
Makeup smudged down her face
Reputation in tatters
Its both silly and tragic
Her illusion is shattered
In the safety of home
She reflects on her past
She can wash away the grime
But the regret always lasts
In bed she despairs
Her queen is dethroned
And the hangover pounds
Worthless and alone.
She's stuck in a cycle
There's no way to fix it
It's not just the drink
That has her addicted
Depressed and in shame
Needs a break from the pain
So once she's recovered
She'll be on the town again
