Past Dreams

Past Dreams

A Story by jsu

When you are past dreams, memories, death and dying

"

When You Are Past Dreams

"I don't dream anymore."

Yes, you do dream; dreams are our minds way of healing itself…. unless,

"But I don't dream, if I did, I would remember; I always did before."

Then you would begin to hallucinate, your dreams would be escaping into your reality…..unless,

"I don't think I hallucinate."

Are you dreaming now?

"No."

How do you know?

"Because dreams have their own characteristics about them."

Can you explain?

"Dreams have their own quality, that's all I can say."

Does this quality reveal itself while in the dream, or do you realize it after you have awoken?

"After I have awoken, naturally."

Then how do you know now, that you are not dreaming?

"Because I am awake; it doesn't have that dream feeling."

Yet you tell me while in your dreams it does not have that dream feeling, it is only after you have awoken. Did you ever dream that you were dreaming, or dream that you were awake?

"Yes, in the past I have."

That could be the case now….unless,

"No."

Do you know me?

"I do not know your name, no, but you seem familiar."

Yet you talk to me as though you did.

"Am I dreaming now then?"

No, you are past dreams.

"What do you mean, past dreams?"

You are where dreamers have stopped dreaming.

"An hallucination?"

No.

"Then where is that?"

In memory.

"Life, dreams and memories, is that what we are made of?"

No, there is dying.

"And death? What of death?"

Death is not a part of you, death is after you.

"I have always had memories."

No, you had recollections.

"You are splitting hairs."

No, recollections are what you have during life, true memories come only with dying.

"I do not understand."

Memories when dying are profound experiences, they are unto themselves. They are accompanied with deeply felt physiological, as well as psychological feelings. You revisit the past far deeper than recollection. You touch your past with mind, body and soul. You relive it with extreme fondness, or profound grief.

"Are you my memory?"

No, I am your awareness.

"I am dying?"
Yes.

"I will dream no more?"
No, you will neither dream, nor have recollection again, you are in your final state of being; you are in memory. Your memory will become others recollections.

This story makes me think that Death is telling a person that he or she is on the cusp of death.
