Wander through the cactus

Wander through the cactus

A Poem by Jon Roggie

Time in the desert,
  many think so barren

Only look at the sand and the heat,
  ignoring the chill of night.

Miss the beauty,
  so much beauty.

Brutal,
  when the hawk takes moisture.

Balanced,
  as the scorpion at night.

Shell bears the scars,
  wander through the cactus.

Dream of a garden,
  and a taste of strawberries.

oh the desert! One of my favorite "playgrounds" ! You did great capturing so much in few words! Difficult when it is so vast & most of life hidden but those that have dwelled there know ( ; and no one can dispute that those cactus flowers are the most beautiful in the world..and prickly pears what desert garden would be complete without them ?! Thank you, Pixie! Most of the life comes out at night. Guess that's why we have Vegas!

Excellent. I never got to spend a lot of time in the desert, but I quickly fell in love with it. There's so much more than meets the eye at a casual glance. There's magic there, in fact.

This is great. The desert is so achingly beautiful and unappreciated by many.
