Find your way, Gnome.

Find your way, Gnome.

A Story by Jon Roggie

Ever have one of those moments,
snow flakes falling at quarter speed,
people looking upward with almost manic smiles on their face?

Well,
 there are manic expressions.

Another evening stroll has commenced to the usual screams and destruction.
  Not that this happens often.
    Once in awhile...

Where was I?

Something about people looking upwards.

Right.

Noticing a lack of attention directed in my current position,
and using a gift of knowledge bordering on predestination,
I wisely move into a convenient alleyway.

Reaching the shadows dark enough to cover the smell of the dumpster,
 I take a pause.
  Take a breath.
Grasp my current level of sanity.
Two of three are in the green, and you get to decide on the third.

I let out a shriek when a hand grabs my shoulder.

It has reached the level of me shrieking.
Not even the dignity of a startled yelp.

"You saw him too?"

Looking upward, and  I do mean upward,
I find myself wanting to go back to bed.
I was wrong about it being a hand.
It was only the thumb and pinky.

At this point,
 I have to ask myself,
"Am I the only one seeing this?"

My inquisitor having already left,
while managing only to destroy the fire escape on an adjacent building.
Best course of action seemed to be relocating to another alley.  I take a breath, and look behind me before saying a word.

Resting for a moment,
  and reflecting,
it all comes back.

"They had to grab his stupid red hat."
