Liberty's Sensation

Liberty's Sensation

A Poem by Jukebox

By Amanda Gloth

Stories and tales being passed over the seas
They reached my ears in my homeland of green
A promising life in this New England behold
The freedom is of abundance in this land I am told
We pack up our belonging, my husband and me
And embarked on a long journey across the sea
It was a tiring voyage, but we made it there safe
Free from the toils and worry of our last state
Many others had the same ideas as us
Fore when we reached New York there was a lot of immigrant fuss
We were required to pass inspections and tests
It took some time, but we were moved through and could finally rest
As healthy as we were this new land took its tolle
Searching for jobs and a place to live wearied our souls
It was a long and difficult task, but it worked out in the end
The only thing now was of nativism around the bend
As free as we were there were still expectations
But we overcame them to discover liberty was such a sweet sensation
