Woe to the Pretty Girls

Woe to the Pretty Girls

A Poem by Julia Ledo

Smokey eyes
Mystery disguise
Fooling all the guys

Send them a smile
Stay for a while
Lily of the Nile

They grip your hips
Kiss your lips
Leave you tips

Woe to the pretty girls
Long hair, pretty curls
Personal pearls

Entertain the fools
Society's rules
Cater to tools

They're only caring
About what you were wearing
Not what you're bearing

Woe to you Helen of Troy
For trusting that boy
You shouldn't have been coy

This world of no take backs
It's you who gets the axe
Who slips through the cracks

The bars a hunting ground
And you were found
Flash forward, you're getting round

You were a quick screw
But you didn't want to
And no one believes what's true

You were only a pretty face
Goal for third base
Woe to that bit of lace

Skin fair
That hair
Clothes tear

Woe to you, pretty thing
Above queen is King
On a crappy box spring

Sometimes you still feel his teeth
Flashbacks of you underneath
It only hurts when you breathe

He's a football star
And all you were, all you are
A girl, alone at the bar

Some women are strong and independent, and wish to remain single. Some looking good on the outside are intelligent and strong too. Let's not be making stereotypes!
Intriguing plot, well done fictional poem. I enjoyed it.
Blessed be!

So you've made me a full on fan. There's a darkness in your coloring that makes the whole piece approachable from all angles (not a sinister pun).

That said. You should think about extending this. Maybe a second part that works on the transformation of realization. Victory from defeat. The girls, they have power, and by the ability of turning respectable men into savages with the bat of an eye, well that's scary in itself. Your Helen of Troy "the face that launched a thousand ships" shows the power one woman has. You can start wars. And then Cleopatra came to mind, earning the hand/hearts of the toughest rulers (supposed smartest generals), Caesar and Marc Antony for her own personal gain. It's a weird circle of using each other but women participate too. So, Woe to the pretty girls, but what about, Hail the [beautiful] women...? (or maybe change beautiful to something else, depends on what your text ends up like. Anyway, just ideas. Good luck.)

wow, this is my favorite from you, Julia.

you paint that perfect picture of the so-called perfect woman...the one everyone envies...that women wish to be, and men wish to claim...but there is so little under the surface....and men usually know this...and want only the conquest, and then to move on.
