Sunburn

Sunburn

A Poem by Julia Ledo
"

... I always end poems this way it seems

"
The sun was my boyfriend
It began when he smiled
And I thought I had just seen
A ray of light

I was sunkissed
In the middle of an indian summer
While the leaves were burnt brown
Down by the pier at the lake

His lips were burning hot against my skin
As his fingers shed some light on my hips
My stomach swirled like an explosive core
While his every breath felt like a solar flare

He was golden
With that corona halo
Like God's flaming seraphim
I gave him myself like I gave an amen

He answered my prayer
And I found that night
There are indeed some things
That are new under the sun

His nuclear core was bound to collapse
In on itself
And he would turn into a black hole
And take down everything with him

I should have known
From all those childhood summers
When you stay in the sunshine too long
You're bound to get burned

I love this. The phasing, the flow, the word choice ... I love the double meaning of sunburnt and the pain that follows. Awesome job! I am so jealous of your talent!

Amazing poem. I love the metaphor and it runs smoothly throughout your poem. The word choice was great. The word choice of the second to last stanza slightly seemed out of tune, but maybe a lengthening of the second line will help. Overall, amazing poetry.

the allegory here is amazing...too much of a good thing tells us something is going to go wrong....it's like waiting for the other shoe to drop...
or, the other sun...

that "nuclear core does collapse"---

and yes...those childhood summers...my best memories...but those days left...
