A Rollercoaster Ride With You

A Rollercoaster Ride With You

A Poem by Julie Skyes

A Rollercoaster Ride With You

She asked me to think of a memory

Not just any, but a good one.

A smile crept its way out

And then began the rollercoaster.

I mean literally.

It was the day that was most special to you

The day you turned yet another year closer to the end,

Closer to the inevitable.

You sat behind me, saying

That it would be less scarier if I got to hold the handle.

He felt quite manly, comforting his girlfriend of her fear as it went up.

I was afraid of heights and boy did he find that cute.

He held me, tight

Thinking it would help but little did he know,

That his touch would send me deep into my,

Then, undiscovered fears.

His touch made me forget,

Also forcing me to remember what I wanted to forget.

Then I screamed and I was finally at peace.

‘I think this is it’ said a relieved me

Little did I know that’s exactly what he would say right before the end.

And 3 months later that’s exactly what happened.

It felt like the right thing to do,

Leaving was hard but I had no choice.

But I hoped he would have tried harder

Fought harder for us

Love was worth time and effort

Is atleast what I told myself.

Told my 14 year old hopeless romantic self.

At the end ,what I realised?

Nothing can hurt you more than your own imagination.

Dealing with emotional growth is truly difficult. You know and yet you don't and "later" isn't an option cause your NOW is just too pressing. Both sides are "discovering" firsts, seconds... tomorrows while navigating "todays". Learning to become you takes time and BEING YOU is a life'stime.
