sweetsA Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)sweets in the lolly bag we gathered after school made our teeth so holy we ended up sitting on a dentist stool sweets for the sweet my boyfriends used to say whisper sweet nothings in my ear and then come and play sweet perfume of rose so red as it lay across the coffin there in this cold bed you meekly lay and my tears have never really washed away sweet little dress in it she could play as a toddler so carefree in the sandpit till the light became dark end of day sweet meringue pie or sweet chocolate pudding tempt our little taste buds here and put some cream on there sweet carefree life we are so lucky these memories of sweet sweet sweet oh so very sweet some children never do say or here cherish that's all so sweet cos in the blink of eye we will watch all fade away as sweetness often turns to sour and in those days we will pray for sweet again and we may watch our mothers cry
