![]() ghostsA Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)![]() true I work in admin in a hospital the office or dept I work in is a very old respiratory ward re outfitted they say there are a few ghosts some have heard or seen this is a true acccount![]() do ghosts exist I say yes I'm not afraid of them I went into work last Thursday my papers to be scanned into my hospital files scewiff all over the floor no cleaner had come no person went in my office at night told my supervisor she said oh must be the hospital ghost we laughed she didn't she said no its true there is a hospital ghost oh really yes she said at midnight the alarms go off some nights sometimes the lights flash sometimes just sometimes I said oh ok I'm not afraid that night I had to return to get some files the office we use in my dept is an old respiratory ward I left looked over my shoulder as I quickly pressed the exit office door I heard a cough a barky cough I bade them goodnight sleepy souls caught in their invisible respirators invisible to me in limbo we work during the day in our office so bright but at night they scramble around drips pulling this way and that slippers scuffling up the hall turnin lights on and off playing with the new computers learning online doing our admin courses learning first aid they hear us coming at 7.00 am they scuffle back to bed hoping they didn't leave a paper untidied or left on the floor like I had seen last Thursday from now on I lock my scanning in the drawer after all hospital files are confidential not to be seen by ghosts or the living I lock my drawer hide the key and the very next day one page is missing I counted them last night 38 to be scanned I locked them away now 36 so yes ghosts do exist they are sent to taunt us to ruyffle our feathers to keep us on toes ghosts don't hurt us we just hurt them by not believing they exist I heard that cough was it mine or the ghost of that patient attached to his drip in limbo he sits his cigarette handy waiting for all to go home he shall light up in limbo he sits waiting for the time he can stop being invisible he patiently sits
