before when?

before when?

A Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)
"

time before the net and phones and technology like computers was born

"
the simple days
the good old days
the school yard elastics
the marbles in the dirt
the ball games on windy afternoons
the dirt upon my shirt
the hide and seek
the kiss and tell
the I spy with my little eye
the whats the time mr wolf games
the simon says party games
the drop the hankerchief games
all good
all good times
another time
another place
what planet was I on then
the same one just a different set of rules
different fun times to be had
yes computers and phones and internet aint it grand
but give me a manual typewriter
and a mr whippy ice cream van
on a sunday afternoon
we would queue up and get the delights
they still come around
but the kids don't put up much of a fight
they have too many things to do all day
that's why most of them are in their rooms all day
on putters on mobiles and sending smileys out
into the wild
bring me back dem good old days
when a kid could be just a child

Great poem definitely can relate to this (apart from dirty skirts). Childhood days for me in the early 80s were allot more simple..

for overseas readers not in australia, elastics was a game girls played in primary in school also marbles was for younger boys and girls and the other party games were all the rage 60s and 70s.
Mr whippy is still an ice cream van that goes around the suburbs on weekends, playing his familar tune.
