The lady in RED

The lady in RED

A Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)

The lady in red

There she goes

On her white horse

The knight in black

With straightened back

He calms the storm

She makes things warm

The lady in black

Wears red some days

But …….His wife

She comes out in a purple

Kinda haze

The knight he winks and smiles

At his damsel in red

The wife tosses off her purple crown

And throws it to the burnt harrowed ground

She chooses something devilish and

rides out in the dusky pink skies

In her pocket of lace and care

She holds the knife

That she will snare

His rugged sheath is ready still

His mare his

White horse

He gallops still

She finds the two in snarly ground

With all legs and arms a toss

She neatly found

She finds her husband

In a sordid embrace

And licks her lips

And marks her gait

What have we here she

Says with evil sneer

The lady in red looks up instead

And smiles so sweetly

As her handsome lover lies

still warm but clearly coldly dead

No woman will ever have him

Not even you of purple evil mind

I gave him poison from my lips

So no one else now could feel his

Warm and gentle kiss

T'was on a fine night a day or two ago

He told me that he loved me so

So I told him I was to bear his child a boy

He said he wanted no part of me or

My evil ploy

So when I found the poison

Of most dreadful cheer

I hid it from my master dear

I ravished him in this unsightly nook

And in my mouth my poison I took

And spat it in his mouth he was rather  severely shook

Ill wager you a fair and handsome price

That I will be dead before the night

So kill me now if you will

But I can hear a faint whiperwill

The woman in red and the wife dressed in purple

Gathered him up amongst fine murtle

They knew that they had both been poisoned by

A man a  black knight

And would forever be

In debt to each other

For breaking his spell

As they sat and got to know each other well

By the rippling creek

And the  faint call of the lonesome night

The call of that lonesome whiperwill

A wonderful tale shared dear Julie. The lady in red create chaos and honest ending. I liked the energy and the drive of the words. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

Yes I love that song thanks for review
And so the moral is - never cheat on your wife. Her mistress may tell or kill. Especially when there are poison and murtle around. :)

A colourful poem Julie excuse the pun. Filled with drama, jealous and revenge hopefully she didn't do a Lorraine Bobet on him too.

Thanks dawn for your review
there is a justice of sorts done in this tragic tale .. i like the work with colors ...and the twist as the lover is the one that does the wife's deadly deed ....

nothing worse for the knight than his woman scorned...
this reminds me so much of Ted Hughes...he could easily be that knight in the poem.
