Musky yellows
Pinky whites Mingled with olive maueves And bluey greens This is the colours she adores And black and grey mixed were On a favourite list too Helicopter birds flew overhead And kangaroos hopped past Like a fighter jet in no haste Cockatoos squawked loud in unison And lizards slithered as she passed Snakes in there too Glad she had her hiking boots on Twas What she couldn’t see She feared the very most The day was hot Sweat mingled with her thirst saliva Hair astray the tail now not so pretty Her bones getting sorer by the seconds She meant to rest But had to keep going They’d be waiting for her She saw her little house The track was clearing She stopped to look up to the trees Said a prayer out loud Thank you God Heard a kookaburra greeting And her dogs ran to meet her hungry For her touch and love Life is good When she woke She looked across at the Dogs asleep Lying on rug beside her She patted in the new day And made her way to humble kitchen The coffee beckoned The bread was hot n crusty The butter warm melting on her tongue Time to greet her day © 2022 Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)Reviews
