Campfire love

Campfire love

A Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)

Sitting by the campfire
He saw her face
Red embers glowed
Flew high
in the cold night air

He sighed
Held back a forming tear
Lifted his glass
Blew the froth on fire
Laughing
Spoke to his fire
Here’s to you
Sweet Katie
My darlin

Her fave song was played
He strummed his guitar
For the night life
Heard it all
Understood it well
All his lonely night

His voice tender
The beer
The fire
The night sounds
The old guitar
Strings near breaking
With his love for her
He missed her so

Much later

He slept well
Next morning
He swept up
The ashes
Of his love
Of the night

Left his camp
Tidy like no one had
Been or
Sang there
All night

Katie knew and would wait
For his return

Patience girl he’d always told her

That was pretty cool. I like the relationship that you built between him and his fire. what a creative way to see it. Really nice Julie.
