The enchanted cabin in the woodsA Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)
Lightning hits
The little Abandoned shack After 11 pm That storm Sure was a Doozie No one died No one lives there anymore In the morning The fire brigade found a note ‘Squirrels lived here How about some nuts for the homeless Much appreciated I’ll second that wrote the crow In slant hand We are the first to be here On this land And The last to leave Ps I like raisin toast Crumbled if you may ‘ Signed squiz squirrel And squawk the crow The firemen laughed Hey Joe Did you write this ? Joe read the note “No that was The woodland Inhabitants “ “Ya having me on Joe !?” No ! Not at all Replied Joe earnestly “I taught squiz the squirrel Last year to write “ Fireman scratched his head Makes a mental note to Stop by the supermarket That day To get raisin bread and nuts The wife will be in stitches Laughing With this one Tonight The truck sped off Down the bush track Squirrel told his youngest “If Those nuts Return tomorrow It’ll be a miracle “ Crow squawked in Agreement Flew off laughing Later that week The local newspaper Heard of The cabin The squirrel and the crow He came by Saw the cabin Entered And saw The Three bowls of porridge Laid out For the three Bears He drove off In a hurry Taking a swig From his flask Not wanting to report on his finding Just in case But he returned often Just To see if goldilocks Or Hansel may just visit He was never disappointed Really Neither were his Grandchildren years later As he retold The enchanted cabin story © 2023 Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)Reviews
