                                                           ROCK STAR!

What one single rock star inspired me?

This was a question poised to me. And which single one gave me inspiration while growing up. You could say I grew up in an ideal time. Since there were many great “rock stars” and groups, such as “the Beatles, Animals, Herman's Hermits, and the Monkees. For the hard core metal heads, there were groups like Metallica, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Iron Butterfly and of course, the Rolling Stones!

If I was to name just one singer that I loved, I guess it would be the one that I listened to the  most. He was known as “Donavon” and I loved his song, “Jennifer Juniper.”  Every time I heard that song I always thought he was singing to me or about me...

There are also many musicians that I loved who are not around anymore. Whether it is from passing on into death, or just growing old. One artist in particular that was great, I wrote a poem about for a contest. This person is still considered a rock-n-roll icon today. Not long after he began singing he became known as “The King”! I don't have to say his name because his title says it all! “Elvis” was and still is an inspiration for many others to pursue a music career. He was and still  is truly loved by the entire world.

I can't really say that I have one favorite that has brought me inspiration. Because I enjoy all kinds of music, it just depends on my mood. When I am sick, I put in my CD of Enya and it seems to relax me making me feel better. I also enjoy Jazz, Classical and all types of Rock music. I don't particularly care for hip-hop or most rap which makes my children happy. Maybe it's just the era I was raised in, for in my younger years I grew up in the hippie era!  When I listen to a band or mention one that I like, my children will not listen to it anymore. They think I am to old to listen to rock music.

I have since been  getting into many of the 80's bands, many I had never heard about until I became friends with someone who used to work for quite a few of them. Some of these are: “ Cinderella, Quiet Riot, Motley Crew and Poison. I keep wondering where exactly I was at the time when these bands were popular. I guess I was in a different state of mind then. But after hearing their music, I fell in love with these groups. My friend used to be a sessions musician for these bands, and when they were traveling to gigs he was one of their roadies. And a few times he would fill in for a guitarist, or a drummer depending on whether he was needed.

Music is something I feel transcends all borders, nationalities, and age groups. It is a universal languages that speaks to every living soul on earth. “To be without music in my life would be like never seeing the sun rise in the sky.”

There is music for every feeling you ever have. For every occasion that comes about. Even music to listen to when you are stoned. In fact, most of the bands during the 80's were high or had been drinking previous to going on stage.  So to say that one single singer or one single band inspired me is a hard thing to do. I loved all the bands that I listened to from the past.  And leave myself open to listening to new bands.
