The Tragedy

Looking out the window, she wondered what went wrong. Why had things turned out this way? Didn't she follow all the rules, do what was expected of her?

Sam came up behind Lucy. And  while putting his arms on her shoulders, he  said, “ Don't worry, Lucy. It will be  ok.”

Lucy replied, “ I know, but still........”

Her  words trailed off, as she just stood there.  She couldn't cry, or even be sad. What was done,  is done – nothing can change it.

Sam turned to see Rick, and he gave him a look.  He told Lucy, “ I'll be right back, you will be alright for a minute?”

Lucy just stared out the window, but quietly said, “ Yeah, I'll be ok.”

Rick said, “ Wow Sam, she is taking it pretty  good.”

Sam answered, “ Yeah I am surprised too. Remember the last time, she totally  broke down. This time she is just...... like numb. I don't think she wants to go through this again!”

Rick calmly replied, “ Well , let's give it time, she will  bounce back. Lucy always does Sam!”

Just then Debbie walked up, and asked, “ Hey guys, how's it going?”

              They both pointed at Lucy.

“ Oh no,  not again!” Debbie said sympathetically.

Sam quickly replied, “Yeah, it did. But give her a few days, maybe a week and she'll be back to normal.”

They all shook their heads in unison, then Debbie walked up to Lucy. She asked, “ You gonna be ok, Lucy?”

“Debbie,  I just don't know why this happens to me. Every time it turns out this way. What's wrong with me, is there some bad vibes that I give off?” Lucy said questioningly.

“Well  maybe, I don't know, but it's happened to me before. Some of us are just not meant for that,” Debbie replied.

Sam walked up, then said, “ We're ready Lucy, all your friends have come to show their support!”

Lucy turned to see a small crowd gathered around her desk. She smiled, and walked over, saying

“ Thanks guys, you're all a bunch of great friends. I  know this seems silly, but it's hard for me.”

In unison they all said, “ Oh it's not silly, and we have all gone through this some time in our lives.”

As Lucy smiled, she picked up the fish bowl. Then  began, “ Harvey  was a good  fish, well, while he was alive. May he rest in peace- up in fish heaven.”

  They all said, “ Amen!”

Sam turned to Lucy, “ Would you like me to dispose of Harvey for you?”

As Lucy handed the fish bowl to Sam, she said, “ Thanks Sam, you're a good friend.”

Then slowly her friends went back to work. Debbie stood there a moment with Lucy. Then she turned, and said, “ You want to go out after work, and get a drink?”

Lucy replied happily, “ Sure sounds good Debbie- let's get some work done now!”

Debbie smiled, and said, “ Ok!”
