Black US!! True Rap!! My Roots!!

A Story by Vincent Makhathini

The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice. Rap was born to preach peace and remind fellow brothers of their True self, display rhyme skills.

Here a am, I black South African male, at 00:14 am in a two bedroom house a lounge and kitchen in on place. And I'm sure you didn't notice that I didn't mention the bathroom, well its outside (twenty feet, away from the this blue house). Everything is at peace and all I can hear is the wind blowing strong outside. It is July here and it is the most windy season here in the South. By the way I don't live in a shack, I don't own a Lion and I definitely don't own a pistol. And I don't own a cow, not even a chicken. I know a lot that I don't know, and I know what I know. Durban is my home City and its 'lit', dangerous, beautiful, and you will also find strippers in most of the clubs here. Just as you would find the in New york city. This city is dangerous and rough at Point road, during the day and night, this is the part of the city that never sleeps. Exploring it is always a blissful escapade for me. This brings me to the street life here in Durban: there are street kids (some leave their homes due to abuse), there are political figures of Boers I don't like, yet I don't mind their huge dead faces starring at me.
By the way the forefathers of the Black Americans came from africa, they were slaves taken to do hard labor for the Whites. But that's all in the past right? No it is not because in my mind I still imagine them doing laborious jobs, working late shifts and having minimal rest. There's something most Blacks have forgotten (no matter where you are, home still awaits). Indians came to South Africa to cut sugar cane, and dependents of those who first set foot here are now referred to as being South African. Yes according to the formal procedure of reference, they are South Africans. The past, true home is India, where their forefathers came from. And that is where their gods are found, where their religious beliefs can be expressed freely. Now back to the dependents of blacks who were enslaved in places outside Africa: They may have mingled with people of other races, blended in very well over the years. They are still African, in truth, yes they are as Black as I am (a Zulu speaking Black male). I could just flip the coin on you as I did a minutes ago, and speak about Hip-Hop. You know how these current 'n****s' have become G (gangster) and the chaos they are causing when they TRY to rap, spreading the gospel of guns, knives, lacing or spiking drinks during Turn-ups... Since there is not Good and Bad, I will not say what's going on is bad. But I can positively say the current Rap/Hip-Hop is not exciting as the Zulu nation type' Raps (which was mostly the display of rhyming skills, flow, and had a grand message behind it (spreading awareness about true African roots). The 2015 commercial music is more about money, cars, strippers. By the way I'm not COMPLAINING!!! I have to say the likes of Rhapsody, Celestial Mic, Joey, Sibo X POET, Humphrey (prod with grand Chakras), Cedrick, Prync Nyck, Proverb, Tumi, Mick Jenkins have got their craft on-point (you prolly' don't know half of the artists I listed YET). Back to History and true self; I say knowing your family tree is important, knowing who you're forefathers are gives one direction and the That's where I Belong feeling.
