I Came From A Fallen Country

I Came From A Fallen Country

A Poem by Janne Varvára Seem

I came from a fallen country
That sunk beneath the waves,
That holds within its heartlands
A thousand unmarked graves,

I came from a bay of sorrows
Where drowned ambitions lie;
Where all my dreams are resting,
Where all my love would die.

I came from a sea of shadows;
They haunt my lonely night,
But brine is far behind me
And mem'ry clouds my sight,

I came from shores of hoping,
I stepped onto the stone,
In islands where a new god
Sits ruthless on the throne.

I came from faithless longing
To find my standing stones
Where Mother Earth has crumbled
To reveal her bones.

I came from all the wanting,
And all I found was this:
The chill of going sunlight,
The mistveil's clinging kiss.

I came to see the Hidden,
The secrets of this land;
They hide so very plainly
Upon my open hand.

This is very beautiful. I also come from a fallen country called "Kenya".

I was thinking more fictionally here, though.
