The Fight

The Fight

A Poem by jasmine levert

The Fight

Thirty five year old Andy just found out he had eye cancer.

At first it was hard for him to accept that he had the cancer.

When he told his wife she broke down and cried.

Because her father had the same cancer when he died.

A month went by and Andy began to lose his sight.

Things started of kinds blurry when he came home from his plane flight.

Andy knew that soon he would end up totally blind.

But he still wanted to fight.

Not just for him but his wife and two young children too.

They didn’t know what to do.

Another month has went by in the middle of July.

Poor Andy woke up one morning and he noticed all of his vision was gone.

At first he didn’t entirely understand why?

Why a good man like him had to get the eye cancer and then lose his sight.

But instead of dwelling on being blind Andy continued to keep on going with life.

Around Thanksgiving his wife couldn’t take it anymore.

So she and Andy’s two young children left Andy.

Leaving him to be blind and all alone.

Poor Andy didn’t understand why.

That his wife would leave him and take his children…why God why?

But even though he wanted to throw in the towel and die.

Instead Andy decided that he was going to continue to fight.

Around Christmas time Andy began to feel sick and weak.

When he went to the hospital the doctor told him that he had one more week.

On the last day of Andy’s life he heard an angel whisper.

“Andy it’s time for you to come home, you don’t have to suffer anymore”.

Even though Andy could not see he saw a beautiful bright light.

Andy smiled to himself and he whispered before he died….

“I no longer have to fight”.

What a sad story. Andy had to go through so much but I'm glad that in the end he found the light.
Very good write :)

This is a really moving story and even though I don't know if it's fact or fiction, you write with such conviction that I believed it anyway. It's kinda humbling to think of what other people go through when my own problems are nothing in comparison. There's a great moral in this write. Excellent work. And I mean that. Justine
