Defenseless

Defenseless

A Poem by Kaity
"

Can anyone relate?

"

I dread the night time when light

Leaves me with a mere memor-

Y of warmth. I watch the stars

And the shadows across my

Bedroom walls rise and fall with

A deep breath that speaks of dreams

But brings instead a promise

That no sleep with grace me tonight.

I turn then to bring out my secret

Page, worn down with use around the edge-

S but filled with my secrets"pleads for

My mind to drift away, leave me be.

I open up to the pale canvas,

Comfort only I feel. Welcoming

My thoughts, to shake off this unwanted

Bad feeling.

To write with a silver point, scratch-

Ing my fears out across, verti-

Cal, no pattern or plan because

Now my mind is racing and the

Point scrapes faster. Breaths turn to gasps

And echo the worry that comes

From what I fear"not the night"but

Of the unknown, unplanned thoughts that

Never go away.

But the shadows complete their trek over

The painted wall until sunlight shimmers

Down on a red spattered template,

Now confessing their secrets.

I thought it was a bit unique to split words into two different lines, but I don't know much about writing. I think it's about how at night, thoughts become overwhelming and the only solution is the "silver point". Gasps are from both pain and fear/stresses in the form of anxiety: the kind that fills you to the brim with terror to the point where you cover your face in the hopes of hiding from both yourself and reality. If you get a chance could you please check out my writing too? I like reviews, so it would be nice. Thank you and good job on your work!
