SpectrumA Poem by TheKamalSlowleyMy first piece, a little about racismSpectrum© A short poem by Kamal Slowley I live in a world with a spectrum filled of colors, Where you’re taught to love one as a sister or a brother, White, brown, yellow and several other hues, But the shade black is what we pay attention to, Because we are darker they decide to prosecute, But the darker the berry the sweeter the juice, And God only said cut off the branches that don’t bear fruit. Young seeds sprouting in rough areas, It’s hard enough to make it past prejudice barriers, Sometimes it’s almost as if there’s nothing left, A nation damaged by long term identity-theft, Black is no more important than any other color, But it helps complete the picture in one way or another, It may not be as vibrant it may not be as luscious, But it still requires just as much justice. But in this world some flowers still get watered, Despite the fact some rose’s are darker, Reaching equity is a neverending mission, After being in the dark you’ll see colour doesn’t make a difference, Love is truly a beauty like no other, Luckily I’m surrounded by sisters and brothers, I live in a world with a spectrum filled of colors.
