Hair

Hair

A Poem by P. Kapper

The short time I spend

In your arms

You in mine

Two bodies entwined

In the glistening moonlight

Is not enough

And now you’re gone

Away from us

And again we part

And on my way

To restless nights

And lonely rooms

A love song plays

A song I’ve sung

Sung to you

Please don’t end

But like the night

And like a kiss

Oh, that kiss!

The final words ring

And the DJ speaks

So I rub my face

 And wipe my eyes

And something tickles…

Locked in my goatee

Lies a hair

A single, beautiful strand

Of ginger red hair

I pull over

Examining my find

And my heart melts

And my heart aches

You’ve gone away

And left my side

But you can’t escape my heart

You can’t escape my mind

So I get on back home

And hurry off to sleep

For in my ever pleasant slumber

You’ll be what I see

For every night’s the same

Your name is all I hear

But it gets me through

Until we meet again

For every time we do

Feelings get stronger

Kisses deeper

Looks longer

Hugs tighter

Heaven closer

But for now

I’ll accept your unintended gift

It’s only a piece

That makes me whole
